Hey, it’s me, Sapphire! Here to tell you a bit about Fibre Bug. We cats love playing with fabric scraps and apparently humans like my mommy do too. There are so many interesting textured textiles and fascinating colourful cloths and they just sort of accumulate in life. Remnants from an old sewing project, an old dress that no one wears anymore and fabric samples collected for crafts, but never used – suddenly many boxes are full and the sewing room is overflowing.
And thus my mommy caught the fibre bug and sorted through this historic collection of fibres and fabrics. Rearranging it according to colour and finding combinations of textures, patterns and colours, pairing them with beads and buttons to create something, or rather someone new. New characters emerge – we emerge out of these vintage, upcycled remnants with a history, so that now we can have a new story and our very fabric of life doesn’t have to end in the landfill.
We hope to have a good long life ahead of us yet, now that we have been brought back to light and life out of the dark storage boxes. We can in turn bring light and life into your world now too. Would you like to give one of us a happy furever home? We – my mommy and us – would be ever so grateful.
Thank you, Sapphire, I think you said it all. Almost all: Their mommy, that is to say, I am Monika Salkauskas, half scientist – half artist, half retired – half overworked and completely committed to using up every scrap of fabric and putting not one thread or fibre into the garbage. I am overjoyed to have found these cats and that they are helping me to reclaim, reuse and recycle. I hope that they might bring some joy to you too.
All animals should have love, food and a good home. That’s why I will be donating 9% of all income to an animal charity. I will make a donation of collected funds about once every quarter and post the donation receipt on Fibre Bug’s instagram account.
